Luke 11:37-40
And as he spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meatAnd when the Pharisee saw [it], he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner
And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness
Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also?
These are obviously provoking and rude things for Jesus to say. Should we ever follow this example? Why or why not? If so, do you speak from personal experience?

That's an interesting thought, Barry.
Perhaps a key word is follow. There is a big difference between following the will/voice of God (who knows the heart of man and how to reach it) and simply being rude of my own accord. Virtue ethics aside, I usually know deep down inside whether or not I am following God. Jesus said that all things were given to Him by His Father. The question is not about social propriety and comfort, but about whether or not you are following God's voice.
Sadly, I have been rude and spoken out of turn, kept silent when I should have spoken, as well as spoken things when led by God. God help us to be more consistent!
