Barefoot running

Running barefoot is the natural way to run. I've heard the logic before. It makes sense. Barefoot, you stride lightly, landing first on the ball of your foot. Shod in cushy Nikes, you heedlessly pound down the road landing first on your heals. The mechanical difference is simple: barefoot, your leg muscles absorb the shock of running. Nike shod, it's your knees.

Well this morning I decided to try running barefoot. I highly recommend it. My stride and running style improved instantly.

It is pretty cool how fast it changes how you run, isn't it?

I have also tried running barefoot. It feels totally different. Would like to do it more but haven't committed to it totally. Definitely have to slowly build up distance in getting used to it so your feet can build up calluses.

Very interesting Barry! Did you have those rubber feet on? With the toes? I wonder what else is in our lives that is insulating us from God's best blessings?

I've heard that before as well, but not with your explanation on the shock absorption. I tried it a long time ago. Time for a revisit.

Yeah Barry! Way to be :) :)

Andrew & Elwyn, you should read "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall. It's all about long distance running, including barefoot running and why it's better.

Well I'm not a barefoot apostle yet, but I figure it's worth a commitment out of intellectual curiosity if nothing else:)

How much time are you going to give it before the final verdict (I hear you on the intellectual curiosity).

Elwyn, my personal verdict is already a preliminary thumbs up, but barefoot apostleship should take take longer. How much longer is difficult to say.
